What's next?
A vasectomy reversal is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes around 2-4 hours to complete. It is important to know that even a successful vasectomy reversal does not guarantee fertility. The operation involves making two incisions in the scrotum. The ends of the vas tube are located and carefully re-joined using magnification and very fine precision stitching.
We normally recommend for a semen analysis test 5-6 weeks after surgery. Presence of live sperm in the sample means that the reversal has been successful. The initial sperm count can be poor, with low numbers and low motility, but this can usually improve with time. The quality of sperm is usually related to the length of time since the vasectomy procedure.
