Female Fertility Problems

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive within one year of trying. Female fertility issues will play a role in roughly 30% of cases where a couple are struggling to conceive. There are many potential causes of female fertility problems, and identifying and treating the issue will help improve your chances of pregnancy.

Common female fertility problems

  • Low ovarian reserve: It can be more difficult to conceive with a reduced number of eggs in the ovaries.
  • Ovulatory disorders: If the ovaries do not release an egg through ovulation, a pregnancy cannot occur.
  • Fallopian tube damage: The fallopian tubes act as the site of fertilisation so any damage or blockage to these tubes can stop the sperm from reaching the egg. The fallopian tubes can be damaged by diseases like endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Endometriosis: A condition where tissue like the womb lining grows in other places, like the ovaries. This can cause damage to the reproductive system and cause fertility problems.
  • Fibroids: Non-cancerous growths that grow in or around the womb. In some cases, they may prevent a fertilised egg from being able to attach to the womb.

Why investigate female fertility?

Investigating female fertility and working to improve it can significantly increase your chances of starting a family. If you have been trying to conceive for a while or would like to conceive at some point in the future, testing your fertility could help you better understand your reproductive options.

Couldn’t have been more helpful. Nothing seemed too much for them, were very accommodating with all our needs and last minute appointment changes. All staff are very friendly, approachable and more than happy to help/answer any questions we had.

After trying for a baby for five years and two failed IVF cycles we were advised by our clinic that this was likely caused by an egg quality issue. We were referred to Claire at Fertility solutions after seeking a second opinion. A semen culture test was performed which revealed an infection. Following two weeks of antibiotic treatment, we conceived naturally and now 7 weeks pregnant! We are beyond grateful to Claire and the team. She was professional, friendly and very efficient. Would recommend to everyone. Thank you

My wife and I had an initial consultation having been referred following tests and we took advantage of the incredibly reasonable and worthwhile consultation with Claire. She was so reassuring about the difficulties men can face and how to progress. Claire is so knowledgeable on the subject that we felt an ease listening to her advice. The consultation includes a follow up letter with clear advice on how to increase your chances of good quality sperm.

The process from start to finish was easy from easy booking and messaging via a portal and Claire is very responsive on emails.

I'd recommend it to couples who want to investigate male fertility and as they experts.
