Female fertility problems

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive and carry a pregnancy to completion after one year of trying.

What are female fertility problems

Often, assessing the couple's fertility as a whole and working to correct this will result in drastic improvements in the couple's fertility and therefore likelihood of a successful pregnancy. When assessing female fertility problems we look for many different things.

Our expert team of female fertility specialists carry out your tests and explain the results and create a plan with you. Combining a service of the highest standard with exceptionally experienced doctors gives you a fertility clinic like no other.

Importantly, a female fertility problems can be warning sign for a woman’s overall health and should not be ignored. Investigating female fertility and working to improve it can significantly enhance your chances of starting a family.

Traditionally, the response to a couple facing fertility problems has been to focus on the woman with little evaluation of the male partner.

Often, assessing both male and female fertility and correcting any abnormal result will result in drastic improvements in the couple's fertility and therefore likelihood of a successful pregnancy.

Common female fertility problems

We pride ourselves on our patient focused, individual approach. The way we assess female fertility problems varies from patient to patient and it can include checking any of the following:

Endometriosis and fibroids
  • Non-cancerous growths called fibroids in or around the womb can affect fertility. In some cases, they may prevent a fertilised egg attaching itself in the womb, or they may block a fallopian tube. Endometriosis is a condition where small pieces of the womb lining start growing in other places, such as the ovaries. This can damage the ovaries or fallopian tubes and cause fertility problems.

Ovarian reserve
  • Diminished ovarian reserve occurs when a woman's ovaries lose their reproductive potential, which can cause infertility. A woman's ovarian reserve refers to the quality and quantity of her eggs, and diminished ovarian reserve means those factors are decreasing.
Fallopian tube damage
  • We assess the fallopian tubes and any damage which is present and may affect fertility. The fallopian tubes can be damaged by diseases such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, infections and sexually transmitted diseases.
Ovulation problems
  • Ovulation is the release of an egg from your ovaries. Inside your ovaries lie many ovarian follicles. These follicles are tiny sacs that contain your eggs. When ovulation, fertilisation and implantation are healthy and successful, then pregnancy will start. If problems with ovulation, fertilisation, or implantation occur, you may have fertility problems.
